I hired two actors who I worked with at my day-job to play office workers doing the Meisner technique. Meisner's techniques paradoxically deploy an unnatural training routine of intense repetition and observational feedback to stimulate 'authentic' emotion and spontaneity in performance.
Capital relies on reproducing 'professional' identities which declare their 'authority' in whiteness and gender normativity. Images of the professional worker are instructions for workers on how they should present themselves, how they should behave, what their politics should be, and what they should think and feel.
If white collar workers are automatons reproducing themselves, will they ever uncover their 'authentic emotions' exist here, their truths?
